A junior at Broomfield High School and a second person died Tuesday in a car crash that happened near the school during the school day.The multi-vehicle crash happened in the area of Main Street and Miramonte Boulevard, the Broomfield Police Department reported at 1:47 p.m. Tuesday on X.In a letter sent Wednesday to students and families, Broomfield High School Principal Ginger Ramsey said Riordan Powell, a student at both Broomfield High and the Boulder Technical Education Center, died in the crash.The other person who died has not been publicly identified. A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized Wednesday night in a Longmont drive-by shooting, according to the Longmont Public Safety Department.Longmont police officers about 8 p.m. Wednesday responded to a shooting at the Countryside Village mobile home park in the 1400 block of South Collyer Street, where a shooter in a dark-colored sedan fired multiple rounds into a home then fled the scene, the public safety department said in a Thursday morning post on Facebook.The gunfire struck the girl, who suffered a “life-threatening bodily injury to her torso”, and officers gave her first aid until medical personnel arrived.An ambulance then took her to a hospital for surgery, and officials said she was in stable condition as of Wednesday night.Detectives are looking for any video surveillance footage from the area to help them in the investigation, and anyone with information can contact Detective Sloan-Stogsdill at 303-651-8544 or Detective John Winship at 303-774-3698.Related Articl...Feds say Starbucks illegally closed 6 L.A. area stores

Six Los Angeles County Starbucks stores may soon reopen after the National Labor Relations Board said the coffee franchise closed about two dozen locations to halt union momentum.As reported in the New York Times, a regional NLRB office determined that 23 U.S. stores were closed "because its employees engaged in union activities or to discourage employees from doing so." A man suspected in a deadly stabbing at a South Los Angeles Metro station earlier this week was arrested after turning himself in Thursday, authorities said.Carlos Carrillo-Martinez, 19, of Los Angeles was taken into custody at the 77th Area Police Station, the Los Angeles Police Department stated in a news release."Carrillo-Martinez admitted being the suspect on the flyer and was interviewed by detectives," the news release stated. The death of a woman who was found on a boat in Marina del Rey last week was a homicide, and the man found dead in a car nearby took his own life, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Thursday.On Dec. 7, deputies found a woman, whose identity has not been released, dead in the 14000 block of Tahiti Way, and shortly thereafter found 33-year-old Kelvin Nelson Jr. dead in a car parked nearby in the 100 block of Via Marina, officials said.
