Cheney on the problem with American politics: 'We're electing idiots' (The Hill) - Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) suggested Monday that the problem with American politics is that “we’re electing idiots.”“Look, I think that the country right now faces hugely challenging and fundamentally important issues,” Cheney said at an event with the cultural and community center, 92nd Street Y, New York. “What we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we’re electing idiots.”Cheney, who is a staunch opponent of former President Trump, offered the reflection in response to a question about whether she would run for president if polling showed that it would hurt Trump’s third White House run. “I don’t look at it through the lens of, you know, is this what I should do or what I shouldn’t do,” the former congresswoman said. “I look at it through the lens of, how do we elect serious people? And I think electing serious people can’t be partisan.”“Because of the situation that we’re in, where we have a major-party candidate who’s trying to unravel our ...

10-minute chili noodles for an easy summer burn Ever have one of those days where you just don’t feel like cooking, but also aren’t keen on eating out or ordering in? In summer, there’s just so much fun stuff to do outside the house that shopping for and preparing a multi-course can feel even more like a chore. If we’re going to be honest, I’d much rather be on my bike or taking a hike at the end of a workday. But what if you could whip up a bowl of the world’s tastiest vegetarian noodles in 10 minutes or less?If your kitchen is well-stocked with Asian pantry ingredients — think staples such as soy and fish sauces, Shaoxing wine and toasted sesame oil — this dish is for you. It only takes as long to prepare as it does to chop some green onions and ginger and measure out a few condiments. In other words, it’s both fast and easy, not to mention budget-friendly.The homemade chili oil sauce is definitely on the spicy side, so if you don’t like to break into a sweat at mealtime, add half a...

98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Is Being Sunburned a Good Excuse to Call in Sick? ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma is about beautiful hot weather and work. Here's the email: Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hey Jaime, This happened to me at work the other day, and I'm wondering what you think of this. I had a great weekend with my family. We went to the Jersey shore, and the weather was perfect...hot and sunny. We couldn't really swim in the ocean because it was so cold, so we hung out on the beach just relaxing and having fun. Well, unfortunately, I ended up getting sunburned pretty badly. I was so worried about taking care of the kids that I forgot to put that much lotion on myself. Anyway, Sunday night it was killing me so I called in sick to work on Monday. When I returned to the office on Tuesday, and everyone saw my sunburn, they were ribbing me about it. My boss even called me in and told me it really wasn't a legitimate reason to call in sick, but he wouldn't do anything ab...

Ask Amy: Adult caregiver feels burdened and burnt out

Ask Amy: Adult caregiver feels burdened and burnt out Dear Amy: I’m halfway through a two-week visit with my 89-year-old mom, and my stress level is through the roof.On the one hand, I know that her life isn’t easy due to numerous health issues, including memory and vision loss — plus the death of my dad just over a year ago.On the other hand, and my siblings would all agree, she makes everything so much harder than it has to be, for herself and for everyone around her.The criticisms, complaints, put-downs, constant demands and need to control everything makes it so hard to find the patience and compassion I should have.It doesn’t take very long when trying to do anything with her before I’m stressed out and frustrated at the way she treats me and what I’m being put through while trying to help her.And I hate myself for it.I can hear the whine of an unhappy child in the grumbling of the adult I’m supposed to be, and by nightfall it’s not just one day’s worth of issues I’m trying to let go of, but decades of conflict, misunderstan...

French Sunday newspaper on strike over fears of far-right turn France’s flagship Sunday newspaper, Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD), was not published last Sunday (25 June) after its staff went on strike to protest against the nomination of a new editor-in-chief who worked for a far-right magazine. The newspaper’s owner, French media group Lagardere (LAGA.PA), on Friday (23 June) named Geoffroy Lejeune as JDD's new editor-in-chief, succeeding Jerome Begle who left for Paris Match.Lejeune is the former head of magazine Valeurs Actuelles, which has courted controversy with anti-immigrant covers and was fined for racist insult in 2022.The move comes just two weeks after the European Commission gave a conditional green light to the acquisition of Lagardere by Vivendi (VIV.PA) the media conglomerate controlled by French billionaire Vincent Bollore. The company already owns news channel CNews, which has taken a conservative turn since Bollore took control. New project aims to dispel 'myths' about Brits abroad - and boost reform drive A major project has been launched which partly aims to “bust some of the myths” about Britons who live abroad, writes Martin Banks.Another objective of the exercise is to garner support for the creation of overseas constituencies in the UK parliament. It is argued that being able to vote for an MP in the British parliament, who represents a constituency outside the UK, would help support Britons who live and work in mainland Europe and beyond. As well as promote the UK abroad.Organizers say that many still cling on to an outdated image of British nationals who reside abroad.Else Kvist, head of communications for New Europeans UK, one of the two campaign groups behind the project, says they want to hear from British people who live abroad. It is hoped the initiative will “help bust some of the common myths about retired Brits lounging about in the Mediterranean, soaking up the sun with a drink in their hand," she said."University research from one of our board members, Michaela Benson,...
