Wide receiver DJ Moore was named the NFC offensive player of the week.DJ Moore never won an offensive player of the week award while with the Carolina Panthers.“Not when you’ve got Christian McCaffrey on your team,” Moore said. “A few times he outshined me. It was all good though.”In Thursday’s 40-20 win over the Washington Commanders, Moore left no doubt. He put together the second-best single-game performance by a Bears wide receiver, with his career-high 230 receiving yards on eight catches trailing only Alshon Jeffery’s 249 yards in 2013. This is truly special.”On Wednesday, Mitchell helped unveil a public sculpture honoring the Ali Summit, the famous 1967 gathering in Cleveland of some of the nation’s top Black athletes, including Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar — a meeting viewed as a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. The carbon steel art piece depicts the press conference table that Ali, Brown and others sat at following their meeting 56 years ago, a moment captured in an iconic photograph. After they watched the team on the field wither away during the final month of last season mostly as a result of injuries, the Twins’ front office worked tirelessly over the course of the offseason to prevent a repeat. They brought back Carlos Correa, a leader on the field and in the clubhouse who comes with a championship pedigree. They swung a major trade for a pitching ace, Pablo López, taking a leap of faith and shipping away a batting champion to do so. They filled the rest of the holes on the roster via trade, free agency and with a group of rookies, whom they watched blossom right in front of their eyes at the major-league level. This team, one of the best pitching Twins teams of all time, seemed well-positioned to make a deep postseason run. After breaking a playoff losing streak that had haunted the organization for nearly two decades a week ago, it felt as if they just might. But this season, like so many before it, ended in disappointment for the Twins and their fans. ...Washington County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team wins two national titles
