Giuliani appears to walk back Georgia defamation admission

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:03:07 GMT

By Katelyn Polantz | CNNRudy Giuliani still refuses to concede that he should be held liable for the harm he may have caused two Georgia election workers after the 2020 election – even though he has acknowledged he made false and defamatory statements about them, according to a new court filing.A federal judge recently ordered Giuliani to either forfeit the lawsuit filed by the workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, or explain himself further and be called into a court hearing next week.Giuliani previously said he was not contesting that he made false and defamatory statements about the workers when he falsely said they took part in planting fraudulent votes as they counted ballots at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. But on Tuesday, he appeared only to double down on that position, rather than concede the lawsuit and face its consequences in full.Giuliani’s court filing says that “for purposes of this litigation only,” he should be treated as having “default liability” bu...

Two South Bay restaurants — one a veteran, one a relative newcomer — are expanding to the Peninsula as part of the State Street Market’s 2.0 lineup.Open now at the Los Altos food hall is The Good Salad, a takeout and catering salad concept that’s been so popular and so highly rated that it’s landed on Yelp’s list of the Bay Area’s top 100 places to eat. The venture was founded in Santa Clara in 2021 by Sanad Al Souz, an engineer who worked with a chef to help create the menu of meal-size salads that feature regional produce, dressings made in-house and 42 customizable ingredients. The top seller is the Blazing Bird, made with Halal Cajun chicken breast, romaine lettuce, black bean and corn pico de gallo, avocado and crispy fried onions, with house-made Chipotle Ranch Dressing and a signature balsamic glaze on the side. Add or subtract toppings as you like. Part of the appeal of The Good Salad is the pricing stricture, which allows customers to delete a topping...

San Jose’s lofty barbecue ranking cools off considerably

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:03:07 GMT

There was a mixture of civic pride and sincere bafflement last year when San Jose was ranked the No. 3 barbecue city in the United States by Clever Real Estate, beating out BBQ-famous cities like Memphis and Kansas City. This year’s rankings are out, and San Jose has fallen to a more realistic — but still respectable — 22nd out of the top 50 metros. What changed? San Jose still ranked pretty high in the number of BBQ joints per 10,000 people, but the cost of buying meat spiked compared to last year and the number of Google searches about barbecue dipped. Austin moved up to the top spot from No. 2 last year, and Memphis — where the top search term is “fried catfish” — made a big jump from 11th to second. As far as California is concerned, San Jose is still the king as the state’s only city in the top 25. Sacramento placed 33rd, L.A. was 42nd and the bottom three spots were held by San Diego, San Francisco and Riverside. Where’s the ...
