Their football team was No. 14 in the final CFP rankings, while the men’s basketball team currently sits atop the AP poll. The other four schools with teams in both are Oklahoma, Tennessee, Clemson and Texas. All five have made ample use of the transfer portal, but two aspects of Arizona’s prominence are notable:1) At the time of their appointments, coaches Jedd Fisch (football) and Tommy Lloyd (basketball) were career assistants with no ties to the university. The other four schools have their two key leadership positions filled with coaches who either knew the school or had previous experience in the hot seat.Arizona took a degree of risk with both Fisch and Lloyd and came out of the hiri...

According to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation, the organization is experiencing the normal growing pains of a young, high-profile nonprofit, as its tax forms show that its donations were down by $11 million in 2022 and it made just over half as many grants as the year before. The California-based couple’s foundation still received a total of $2 million in donations in 2022, which many nonprofits would be thrilled about, and the foundation issued $1.2 million in grants to more than a dozen organizations, according to its 2022 IRS documents, otherwise known as its Form 990. Then again, Archewell boasted in 2021 that it donated more than $3 million to a number of causes that year.Earlier this year, headlines focused on how Archewell received a total of $13 million in donations in 2021, with a $10 million infusion of cash coming from an anonymous donor, via the Mountain View-based Silicon Valley Community Foundation, according to SVCF’s 2021 IRS documents...

The Warriors play the Suns in Phoenix on Tuesday night, but they won’t face former Golden State star Kevin Durant.Durant will miss the game with a sprained left ankle, which he injured last Tuesday in the in-season tournament quarterfinals loss to the Lakers. He missed Friday’s game against the Kings.Phoenix will get a different star back on the court, though, as Bradley Beal is set to play his first game in a month as he has dealt with a back injury. The Suns’ star trio of Durant, Beal and Devin Booker has not spent any time together on the court since Beal arrived in an offseason trade that sent Chris Paul to Washington, where he was later flipped to the Warriors in exchange for a package centered around Jordan Poole.Related ArticlesGolden State Warriors | Why the Warriors need more Jonathan Kuminga this week; Steve Kerr reacts to Suns DJ remix Golden State Warriors | Prosecutors say man who entered Atherton home of Steph Curry skipped ...

Jenny Jarvie | (TNS) Los Angeles TimesThe Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was best known for its sit-ins against segregation in the Deep South. But in the summer of 1967, the civil rights group used its newsletter to weigh in on a different topic. In an article headlined “The Palestine Problem,” the group wrote: “Do you know that Zionism, which is a world-wide nationalistic Jewish movement, organized, planned and created the ‘State of Israel’ by sending Jewish immigrants from Europe into Palestine (the heart of the Arab world) to take over land and homes belonging to the Arabs?”It was illustrated with a dollar sign inside a Star of David. The story roiled many civil rights activists, who denounced it as antisemitic and expressed their support for Israel as a homeland for Jews in the wake of the Holocaust. The SNCC, which had expelled white members as it shifted to a more militant Black nationalism, responded with an official statement that recognized the murder of 6 million ...

Alexandra Mendoza | San Diego Union-Tribune En EspañolTIJUANA — Months into an ongoing increase in migrant border crossings — which have left hundreds of migrants on any given day unsheltered in San Diego County and strained local humanitarian resources — Mexican authorities have stepped up enforcement in an effort to deter passage into the United States.Just south of the border wall in San Ysidro, Mexican officials have installed a chain link fence reinforced with razor wire at the top and bottom that prevents entry to a section of the Tijuana River channel, identified as one of the main points for migrants crossing into San Diego.Behind the barrier, Mexican National Guard and immigration agents keep watch at all times.Since its installation last month, the number of migrants crossing in that area has decreased. However, it has increased in others spots farther east, such as Jacumé in Tecate, just south of the border from Jacumba Hot Springs, according to Mexican officials. As a re...
